Q: Does Genesis House provide emergency housing?
No. Genesis House is not equipped to accept residents on an emergency basis. A woman who is interested in living at Genesis House must first fill out the Genesis House application.
Q: How do I apply to be a resident at Genesis House?
The application process includes a written residency application, a face to face interview, professional and character references, and a background check. Genesis House staff will notify you when we receive your application. When a room becomes available, staff will contact you to schedule an interview. Residency is determined based on need, criteria qualifications, and how well the applicant can live in a community setting.

Q: What are the qualifications to apply for residency at Genesis House?
The applicant must be at least 18 years of age, at least 30 day sober having completed an in-patient rehabilitation program, be able to appropriately manage and self-administer medications, and be able to appropriately interact with other residents in community (dorm style) living environment. If there are mental health concerns, applicant must provide Genesis House with documentation showing mental health systems are well managed with medication and/or mental health counseling.
Q: How long can someone live at Genesis House?
As long as a resident is following Genesis House’s rules, policies, and program, the resident may stay at Genesis House up to 24 months.
Q: Does Genesis House accept men as residents?
No. Genesis House is a facility for woman 18 years and older.
Q: May my children live with me at Genesis House.
Yes. Female children 17 years old and younger and male children 11 years old or younger may live with their mothers at Genesis House.
Q: How is Genesis House funded?
Genesis House is almost exclusively funded by churches and individuals of Northwest Iowa.
